Week 13 Farmily CSA Harvest List & Recipes

admin Allenbrooke Farms, Harvest List, Recipes, Spring Hill Farm

Here’s what you can expect at this week’s Farmily CSA pickups:

  • Spaghetti Squash (It has come to my attention that a lot of you have never tried these! They are one of nature’s wonders- a squash that turns into a carb/gluten/dairy free spaghetti and actually tastes amazing! I beg of you- try one.)
  • Eggplant (Italian eggplant, Asian eggplant, and a tiny version of the classic black eggplant- all small enough to fit in your baskets and great tasting.)
  • Zucchini (get out your spiralizers! Try zoodles! Use it instead of noodles in lasagna! Make zucchini bread!)
  • Cucumbers (see of the best tasting we have ever had, so sweet and delicious)
  • Okra (fry it up y’all)
  • Heirloom Tomatoes (these are on the greener side, you can let them ripen at home, or eat them green!)
  • Shishito Peppers (sweet peppers, 13-40 times less hot that a jalapeño. cook whole- great for stir fry, amazing sautéed. 1 in 10 are ‘hot’ but still 10-40 times less hot than a hot jalapeño. they’re sweet peppers, you’ll love them)
  • Jalapeno Peppers (they are pretty dang hot this year)
  • Bell Peppers (sweet tasting classic bell peppers in fun colors- Green, White, Lime Green, Yellow, Red, and Purple)
  • Red Norland Potatoes (smaller red potatoes, naturally creamy and buttery. we store ours in the fridge unwashed. do NOT store near onions! Great in potato salad, roasted, or mashed)
  • Yukon Gem Potatoes (your classic all purpose potato)
  • Red Onions (we store ours in the fridge. do NOT store near potatoes!)
  • Basil (store just like you would cut flowers- in a small jar or vase with their stems in water. I keep on my windowsill above my sink with my tomatoes)

All are hand harvested by us and brought to you the same day. Farm fresh, Certified Organic, and full of love!

**The yellow squash may be ready in time, it took an unexpected unapproved vacation in the heat. Also unapproved, the flock of turkeys that has taken up residence in our fields (can you see them in the picture below, flying away like they didn’t taste all the tomatoes). They are one reason there were not as many red tomatoes last week. After the raccoons had their party in the corn fields, when Farmer Dan saw the turkeys, he called immediately to get permission to get the turkey gone. They confirmed what we already knew- the critters are bad this year. **
