admin Allenbrooke Farms, Farm Fresh News & Updates, Harvest List, Recipes, Spring Hill Farm

We’re BACK! Here’s what you can expect at this week’s Farmily CSA pickups:

  • Sweet Potatoes (classic sweet potatoes you all know and love, AND purple sweet potatoes too!)
  • Okra (fry it up y’all)
  • Turnip Greens (these are the best tasting greens! try them creamed or sautéed)
  • Radishes
  • Jalapeno Peppers (they are pretty dang hot this year)
  • Bell Peppers (sweet tasting classic bell peppers in fun colors- Green, White, Lime Green, Yellow, Red, and Purple)
  • Red Norland Potatoes (smaller red potatoes, naturally creamy and buttery. we store ours in the fridge unwashed. do NOT store near onions! Great in potato salad, roasted, or mashed)
  • Yukon Gem Potatoes (your classic all purpose potato)
  • Kennebec Potatoes (chefs say these make the best fries and baked potatoes)
  • Basil (store just like you would cut flowers- in a small jar or vase with their stems in water. I keep on my windowsill above my sink with my tomatoes)
  • Butternut Squash (a fabulous winter squash to fulfill your cravings for all things fall even though temps are still in the nineties)
  • Eggplant (Italian eggplant, Asian eggplant, and a tiny version of the classic black eggplant- all small enough to fit in your baskets and great tasting.)

All are hand harvested by us and brought to you the same day. Farm fresh, Certified Organic, and full of love!

Recipes to try this week:

Crock Pot Balsamic Pork Roast (I add sweet potatoes and onions, use way more garlic then she suggests, and leave out the honey because sweet potatoes are so fabulously sweet already)

Chipotle Chicken Sweet Potato Skins

Warm Turnip Green Dip (sub fresh turnip greens for frozen and make this! ’cause it’s football season in the south)

Roasted Parmesan Sweet Potatoes

Turnip Greens & Sweet Potatoes

Crispy Garlic Butter Smashed Potatoes (Farmily Recommended!)

Slow Cooker Turnip Greens

Crispy Baked Sweet Potato Shoestring Fries (using the spiralizer)

Black Bean & Sweet Potato Flautas (Pictured)

Butternut Squash Lasagna

Radish Chips (in full disclosure, I skipped her seasoning suggestions and dumped some ranch seasonings on them. They were fabulous and I used them as croutons on salads)

Sausage Stuffed Jalapeños

Philly Cheesesteak Stuffed Bell Peppers

Chinese Eggplant with Garlic Sauce

Butternut Squash Enchiladas

Radish Leaf Pesto (yes you can do something with those leaves)

Cheesy Jalapeno Cornbread

Grilled Eggplant

Jalapeno Poppers

Oven Roasted Okra

Stuffed Bell Peppers (also a Freezer Meal! I freeze these every year)

Balsamic Eggplant ‘Steaks’

Stuffed Breakfast Peppers

Basil Pistou (this is how I preserve my basil- put in ice cube trays till frozen, then in ziplock bag)

Oven Fried Okra (I make my version of this ALL the time! it’s fabulous. I don’t spray the bag like she does. I spray the pan with olive oil before cooking. And I usually use whole wheat flour instead of cornmeal. This recipe rocks. It takes longer than you think to cook, start it first if you are cooking a whole meal since you want the flour to soak up all the slime in the okra, and then you have to cook it after)

Loaded Baked Potato Salad (bonafide. we have been making this for years!)

Red Potato Salad (Farmily member tested and recommended)

Chicken in Basil Cream

Parmesan Roasted Butternut Squash
